"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift !" (2 Cor. 9:15)
In Christmas, God assumes the most deplorable condition of human life. With no place to be born and then born in a manger and fleeing as a refugee. These identifications were for a true reconciliation, a reconciliation with the mundane realities of human life. We see in Christ a God who has known all the pains of human life. That is the perfect GIFT, a gift par- excellence, the quintessential example of a perfect Gift.
Christmas in this country is celebrated with lot of pomp and gaiety. Giving gifts is a common practice in Christmas. Along with that practice, it is our responsibility to remember that Jesus is the perfect gift to humanity. When Jesus takes flesh in us or incarnates in us, our lives will become a gift to God and humanity.
The wise men gave their gifts to Jesus: gold, myrrh and frankincense. For the shepherds, their journey itself was a gift.
What is our gift to God for his love in giving us this indescribable gift?
St. Paul after explaining the work of God in history through Christ exhorts the readers to "submit their lives as living sacrifice to God which is a pleasing gift to God". (Rom. 12:1, 2).
Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
With prayers
