Brief History

The Carmel Mar Thoma Church had its humble beginning at Boston in the early 70's as a prayer fellowship. The parent church officially recognized the Boston gathering of the faithful as a congregation in 1981. The first diocesan bishop was Rt. Rev. Thomas Mar Athanasius and the vicar was Rev. Abraham Thomas. The congregation registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a legal entity in the year 1984 with the name Mar Thoma Congregation, Boston with nine families taking formal membership. The church building was dedicated in the year of our Lord 2001 A.D.

Vicar's Message

Fall 2008

As autumn has started, the change is notable around nature through which we can learn about the temporality of this life. When the temperature drops down, the color change on leaves begins to appear. The leaves have completed their task for their very short span of life. As we are entering into the last quarter of this year, let us be mindful about the transitory nature of our life and be convinced about the duties we have been entrusted. In the Bible many metaphors are used to stress the brevity of our life on earth.

Sevika Sangham Day

September 14th is being observed as Sevika Sangham Day. We look forward to everyone's participation in the worship service, the theme being 'Jesus empowers women for the ministry'.

Singing Hills Retreat

The retreat was led by Rev. Jacob Mathew and Dr. David Scott. Both Dr. and Mrs. Scott provided insights into 'Engaging Faith' and how we as Christians can participate in our communities and the world at large in a meaningful way. Everyone who attended had a wonderful time. You can see pictures here.

Vicar's Message

Summer 2008

We have entered in to the second half of the year. The time flies and the seasons are changing in rotation. This part of the world is enjoying the warmth of the sun and the cool of the summer rain. Greeneries and vegetations are seen everywhere. What a difference the rain makes. When it falls, we can hardly recognize the landscape which was not a blade of grass to be seen. Green grass was carpeting what had previously been bare earth. What a transformation!

Condolences

It is with regret that I inform you of the passing of the mother-in-law of Ms. Elizabeth Thomas (Prabha), mother of the late Dr. Mathew B. Thomas and grandmother to Jessvin, Shinu and Shawn. She was 92. Please uphold the family in your prayers.

Georgie
